About

Ever since her beloved father’s death, Annabelle has lived with her step-mother, Melusina, and step-sisters, Bryony and Poppy. They treat her as a servant, expecting her to attend to them at all hours of the day.

But Annabelle is good for more than just cooking and cleaning: the daughter of a seamstress, she can use magic to weave extravagant gowns out of things like smoke, sea foam, and starlight. Her step-sisters take credit for her work and become known throughout the capital for their talents.

When the crown prince comes of age and is expected to marry, Bryony and Poppy are among the twelve noblewomen invited to come live at the palace for a few months, where they will have the chance to speak with him at a weekly ball. Annabelle is sent with them to work as a palace maid and continue making their glamored ball gowns in secret.

The salary she gets from the palace might just be enough to help her escape Melusina’s household at last and start a new life someplace far away. But unbeknownst to Melusina, Annabelle and the prince have met before. Though he doesn’t recognize her when they reunite by chance, their growing friendship derails her plans—and risks costing them both the futures they envisioned.
